Better Think Again
A parable is often defined as “an earthly story with a heavenly meaning”. The Lord Jesus frequently used parables to illustrate profound, divine truths. The stories are easily remembered and are chock-full of bold characters and meaningful symbolism. Many times, Jesus was trying to help his listeners “think again” about a common topic to teach them a deeper message. However, Jesus understood that truth is not sweet music to all ears. Some are simply not interested in the deeper things of God. So then, why did He speak in parables? To those with a genuine hunger for God, the parable can be an effective and memorable vehicle to convey God’s truths. Yet to those with hardened hearts, the parable can be an instrument of both judgment and mercy.
